Eunice Manfoste – Administrative Assistant
Hi! My name is Eunice Manfoste, but known to many as Thiney. As a wife and proud mother of 3 – 2 handsome sons and 1 beautiful daughter – my life is like a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs.
At first, my passion was teaching; that’s why I took up a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education, however, an unexpected turn happened in my life when I got pregnant in my 4th year. Although I didn’t finish my degree, I remained determined to give the best future to my kids.
Since I did not finish my degree, finding a stable job with a good salary became a challenge for me, but I never lost hope. By God’s grace and through my perseverance, I found an opportunity with IDP Education Limited in 2008 as a casual/on-call staff.
My first role in IDP was as a front desk officer. My main responsibility is assisting walk-in applicants, answering queries, and handling phone calls. Because of my commitment to work, and good performance, they also entrusted the cashiering responsibility to me, using the MYOB system to process payments and manage accounts. I remained casual staff for over four years due to company staffing limitations, but my commitment to work eventually paid off when I became a permanent employee in 2012.
As a front desk officer and cashier, I handled cash transactions, prepared and reconciled balances at the end of the day, and made bank deposits in compliance with internal management policies. I acted as the first point of contact with clients – through the telephone, e-mail, and in person, managed the exam registrations and payments and assisted candidates. I helped streamline front desk and financial procedures, enhancing office efficiency and client satisfaction.
During the pandemic, my work ethic, adaptability, and reliability led to my promotion to Administrative Officer. The transition from front desk to admin was smooth because I was able to adapt to the new environment and quickly learn new tools. Through the years, I gained more and more knowledge and experience, which helped me to cross-function across various departments. They described me as someone dependable, reliable, diligent, keen on detail, helpful, resourceful, and someone who values the importance of teamwork.
Through the years, I’ve learned that putting passion into what I do will help me grow. I became more effective and efficient by putting my heart into my work. Also, I learned the importance of asking for help and continuing to study are key factors for my career growth. However, this year, our company faced different challenges, and the management needed to make a very hard decision for the benefit of the entire company. We had a reorganisation, and unfortunately, my position was affected. While this was difficult, I just took it as a sign from God and an opportunity to take a new path and more growth in my career. Equipped with all the knowledge, skills, and experience I gained as an administrative officer and in customer service, I am now pursuing a career as a virtual assistant. I know I need to learn and master more tools and need to adjust to working from home, but I believe that my resilience and adaptability will help me succeed in this new role and environment.
