Fretzie Balana Hernandez – CSR and ESL Teacher
I’m Fretzie Hernandez from the Philippines.
I was born on June 28, 1980, in a small town in Bacacay, Albay in the city of Legazpi, the home of the famous Mayon Volcano. I’m the only girl and the eldest in the family. At a young age, I was trained to be independent. My father used to be an Overseas Worker Abroad in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while my mum worked as a Sales Associate in an Insurance Company. I am lucky and thankful enough that our parents did their best so that they could send us to school and provide for our needs.
In 2001, I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science / Associate in Computer Technology. A year later, I gave birth to my first child and my life changed completely. My child gave me all the good reasons to pursue my dreams and be the best person I can be.
I went to Saudi Arabia to work as a Personal Secretary for two years. My employer was a Saudia National who owns a lot of businesses. That experience gave me the chance to meet different people and experience different cultures and I learned a lot of things. As a secretary, I was responsible for keeping all the records of the company, including inventory, sales, bookkeeping, and ordering.
I like to be with people and talking to different clients abroad. It’s one of the reasons why I stayed and worked as a Customer Sales Representative in a BPO company in Manila for four years. It’s a tough but challenging job. I learned to multi-task and communicate effectively. Our job required us to be friendly, engaging, energetic, and above all, patient.
To widen my horizons, I tried working online. I took some training courses and applied as an ESL – English Secondary Language teacher online. I like talking to people of different ages from different countries. I have this passion for teaching. I may not be an Education Major but I learned to love the job. It’s been more than three years now, but I’m still learning. I know I’m good at this job and I enjoy it a lot.
Working at home is fun because I can be with my family, travel to different places and work at the same time. I always try to get out of my comfort zone by challenging myself to learn more. I took some VA courses online, watched a lot of video tutorials, did some research and read a lot about the industry.
I am willing to be trained for me to learn more. From my CSR support experience, I know I can do more and I can be better. I am a positive person. I never lose hope. I don’t easily give up. I give my best in everything I do.
