Girlyn  Bodiongan – Social Media and SEO Manager

Hello, I am Girlyn Ann Avelino Bodiongan, I was born on October 10, 1992 in Oroquieta City, Philippines.

There are only two siblings in my family, and I am the eldest child. I took my elementary education at Aloran Central Elementary School, which is a public school. I received a scholarship and was able to undergo my secondary education at a private school, St. Matthew’s High School.

During my high school days, I was very active in school activities. I was a member of the Student Executive Council (SEC) which is an organisation for student government. I was a member of the school drum corps and played a lyre xylophone instrument. I was also a member of our school choir and dance group. My high school was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I learned a lot of things, shared my talents, and found my best friends for life.

In 2008, I entered college when I was 15 years old and as I was still young I was unsure which course I should take, so I ended up taking Industrial Engineering. Unfortunately I was hospitalised during the second semester and decided not to continue my second semester due to the ensuing financial problem.

The next year, I commenced studying again thanks to my mother’s sister who shouldered the tuition fees and my allowance. I transferred to another course, BS Computer Science. However, after two years I decided to leave that course because I discovered programming was not really for me. Finally, after a roller coaster journey, I graduated from college in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Computer Technology major in Embedded System. I am proud to say I graduated from one of the top performing universities in the Philippines – Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology.

During my college days, I also started working online as a Virtual Assistant to help my family financially, and to help support my brother who was also studying at the university. My parents didn’t have stable jobs so that’s why I decided to work and study. With the help of our Heavenly Father, I was able to manage to balance work and study at the same time. After graduation, I moved back to my hometown to live with my parents as I was able to work from home as a virtual assistant.

In 2017, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 4 and passed away after one year of fighting. June 2018 was the worst time of my life because my mom was gone.

Months have passed now and I have been learning to accept what has happened little by little. I decided to make myself busy and happy again. I started playing badminton, spending time with family and doing something I would enjoy. I know when I’m happy, my mom is also happy and she will always live in my heart.

“Live life to the fullest and focus on the positive”. That’s my quote on life from this moment on.
