Gladys Roxas – Customer Service Representative

gladys-joy-roxas-profileHi! I am Gladys Joy B. Roxas, born on the 28th of March 1988. I am the only daughter of a single mother. Ever since I was born, my mother had to work hard to care for our needs. I literally don’t know how she does it. Since my mother couldn’t always be there, the people who did do the usual parental activities with me were my aunt’s family. Being away from my mother most of the time shaped me to become more independent and I’m Blessed for it. I had the best childhood memories and I am loved. Every time I reminisce back to those times, it makes me smile for it holds a special place in my heart and with a hoping heart, I also want my son to experience the same happy childhood.

As a child, my greatest dream was to become a nurse. I love to help sick people and I think I look good in a white uniform, but the real reason why because I want to work abroad and earn is so that I can repay my mother. My mum and I don’t have a perfect relationship, but there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see her as my superhero. A strong woman, a woman who is not afraid to strive and persevere when life gets tough, and a woman who will never back down even on her weakest day.

Fast forward – I was not able to finish college. I joined the BPO industry but I still did not give up my dreams. I honed my skills and work hard. I compete with degree holders because I am determined that I can do better even without my diploma. I got promoted and was a supervisor for almost 4 years.

Despite the obstacles, I pushed myself to strive more and tried to find ways to reach my dreams. Since my old company does not support employees who wish to study while working, I enrolled back in college through Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) in USJR, without their knowledge. Struggle was real. I had to make both ends meet with work, school schedules and my family. I had to pay my own tuition fee and finance all my gladys-joy-roxas-beachneeds. I almost gave up, but I am a firm believer of the saying “Patience is a Virtue” and I have my son who keeps on inspiring me that I can do it.

When I look back on my dreams, I can finally say that I am starting to make my dreams come true. God is a God of order, because He puts all things in perspective.

In March 2020, I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Human Resources Management and Development.

My story does not end here but this is the start of something more beautiful.

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful”.
