Isaiah John Oncines – Sales and Marketing
My name is Isaiah John L . Oncines, you may address me as IJ, a Filipino citizen living in a small town named Lilo-an, located on the island of Cebu, Philippines. I am 28 years old, the youngest in a family of five. I have a 1-year-old son whose name is Lucas, and a partner, Sophia, whom I have been with for eight years. I took a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of San Carlos and graduated last April 2016.
From my previous work experiences, a work-from-home setup would never come to mind since the moment I started my job, I always have been in the field given that I am a Sales Agent from different companies. However, life is full of surprises! A remote work is introduced where it is a win-win situation for both the employer and employee. I find this set-up as a life saver since the traffic condition has worsened plus the hassle of commuting every day adds up to your expenses. The first job I had was as a Sales Executive under Honda Cars. The job deals with clients, helping them with their requirements, filing and paperwork with regards to bank loans, releasing and after-sales. Because of this, I was able to acquire more skills for me to do my job well and perform better. Right after my first job, I was able to work with my father and uncle’s company as a Sales and Marketing Associate, as well as an Admin Assistant, where we deal with marine services/shipbuilding and repairs. The setup was purely work-from-home since it is a family business. My daily tasks involve dealing with potential clients, arranging a meeting with them and doing sales calls from time to time. Apart from that, I was also in charge of social media marketing and making reports that included the weekly and monthly performance, payroll, monthly purchases and government requirements. I was also in charge of visiting the site often to check on progress and the contractors. We have a project outside Cebu so I also go to other places to facilitate and make reports about it, making sure that our workers are working comfortably. Through this, I was able to develop leadership skills and learn to be a team player.
Through the years, understanding the company is very important. It may be new to you or you may not have the proper knowledge about the job, this will not be a hindrance for you not to perform. It may take time to learn and adapt but if your drive is to perform and learn, you will strive on it. Be on your A-game every day and be responsible, everything will turn out great! You are going to love a work-from-home setup since aside from being in the comfort of your home; you get to provide for your family while being able to be with them 24/7.
The main goal that I want to achieve is to grow my career in a path where at the end of the day, I learn and I am valued. It is important for us to grow in a company where we are comfortable to perform our job very well. With that, I am proud to say that working from a company that loves you will help you strive and can apply all my learnings not just at work, but also in my day-to-day life.
