Jahnica Lumauag Gucela – General Virtual Assistant, Financial Planner Assistant
Hi, my name is Jahnica Lumauag Gucela, but my friends and colleagues call me Nica. I am 30 years old, married, and while we don’t have kids yet, we are proud parents to three adorable dogs. I graduated from West Visayas State University with a degree in Information Technology.
I grew up without a father, and since my mom worked away from home, my grandmother took care of me from the time I was five years old. At an early age, I learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and resilience—experiences that have shaped me into who I am today.
After graduating in 2015, I didn’t have time to rest. I began job hunting immediately after graduation. My first role was as a Customer and Technical Service Representative at Convergys, where I dealt with clients, billing issues, and technical problems related to cable, internet, and phone services. The night shift took a toll on my health, so I made the decision to resign and look for a day shift job. By God’s grace, I was able to land a position at an Australian firm based in Cebu, Philippines, which offered better work-life balance. I worked as a claims officer for a motor vehicle company, and that’s when my career truly began to change.
I never imagined that I would work from home or become a Virtual Assistant, but sometimes life surprises you. When the pandemic hit, we were forced to work remotely, and at first, I didn’t think it would be effective. To my surprise, it worked out much better than I expected.
Working remotely has been incredibly fulfilling. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience in customer service, client support, reporting, email management, process workflows, and understanding Australian culture and the life insurance industry. I’ve built strong relationships with my teammates, and I’m honoured to be recognised for my work ethic and contributions to the team.
What has made working remotely even easier is the love and support of my family and husband. I’m grateful for the time I can spend with them, especially during holidays and special occasions. It also allows me to balance my professional life while being the partner my husband needs me to be.
I’m thankful for companies like yours that offer flexible opportunities like this. Time is precious, and I’m happy to be able to use mine wisely. My goal is to continue growing in my career and acquiring new skills along the way.
