Jech Alexander Jose – Encoder, Technical Support Representative

jech-alexander-jose-vaHi! My name is Jech Alexander Jose, but my colleagues call me Alex.

Being a father at an early age is not an easy task. Particularly going to school on the weekdays and helping taking care of the baby at the same time! It was hard finding ways to sustain our needs, that’s why I decided to go to a different city and try to explore opportunities.

The city was, at first, too overwhelming for a province kid like me, but later on I adopted the lifestyle.

I landed a job at Convergys – now known as Concentrix – as a Technical Service Representative under Microsoft. There I endured a month long training of specialising in different troubleshooting techniques. It was not an easy task, and it would be even more difficult if you were not a determined person. I began with them in June of 2018.

It was a bitter sweet feeling for me. While I was happy that I had work, the transportation to my workplace was really a nightmare to begin with. The distance from the boarding house where I lived to work is close to two hours – then add in delays due to traffic! Cebu City is a crowded place, and that’s why I had to leave home for work atleast 3 hours early to compensate for the time of travel. I got used to it, and sometimes I tried to sleep during the commute home.

It was depressing for me at times. I missed my family, especially my kid Xander who at that time was just 4 years old. We often did video chats, especially on my days off. It was hard to keep the emotions in check. Sometimes I just burst into tears, imagining they were there with me.

Then the unexpected happened: they visited me by surprise. They were with me for about a month and it was a blast! I toured them around different spots in the city. The feeling was so unreal. Being apart from your loved ones for months often feels like an eternity.

jech-alexander-jose-funAfter being endorsed, I worked for just over 5 months. It was a satisfying experience to be able to help people with their needs, especially since we were helping people in Europe, most of whom are old folks. I had encountered irate customers, but I handled them with care and assurance. I find that being confident when communicating helps a lot when de-escalating irate customers. Although my experience was not that long, the learnings that I had acquired was all worth it.

After working with Convergys, I returned to my home town to take care of our family business. We have a poultry farm here that my family and I run. And the learning that I now had through being a Service Representative helped me further build our business.

But I also want to make a mark of my own. That’s why I went online, checking opportunities and hoping to get a chance at working as a Customer Service Representative. I miss the surge of people calling, and the thrill of the last mockcall. There is a lot to learn in this field and that’s why I will keep on striving to improve.
