Marisol Aguilar – General Virtual Assistant, ESL

marisol-aguilar-vaHello! My name is Marisol Aguilar, but my nickname is Sol. I am 30 years old, married, and have 2 beautiful children. I graduated in 2014 from Central Mindanao University with a degree in Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Psychology. I was a timid and hard-working student during my university days, but I never forgot to enjoy life with friends.

At the age of 21, I got my first job. I worked as a customer service representative for a BPO company in Davao City. I can vividly remember the first time I took a call. The customer was very frustrated and cursed at me. I cried and had my supervisor take over the call. It was challenging work wherein I had to deal with customers’ complaints and enquiries and provide solutions to different issues. However, I was able to settle down after a few months and managed to get promoted to an SME position. As an SME, I had to provide customer and agent support and do administrative work. After eight months of being a subject matter expert, I got another promotion as a team lead. At first, I was hesitant to apply for the role as there were a lot of older and more experienced colleagues in my team, but my manager encouraged me to try and believe in myself, and yes! I got the role. My job as a team leader was much more challenging because I had to manage teams with different people of different ages and personalities. I led teams from different LOBs, financials, and merchant accounts.

marisol-aguilar-vaIn 2018, I decided to resign after getting married because we had to relocate for my husband’s job. After almost a year of being a full-time mom, I decided to apply for home-based jobs to help with household expenses. Since 2019, I have been working as an ESL teacher for Chinese and Taiwanese students. I do enjoy teaching, but I want to transition to a job that allows constant growth. A job that can enable me to work with business people and contribute to the success of their businesses, and that’s becoming a virtual assistant.

Working in this industry will allow me to develop skills, and earn in the comfort of my home, without compromising my time taking care of my family. As a working mom, it is my dream to support my family emotionally, physically, spiritually, and financially.
