Mary Abrea – Accountant

mary-paz-abrea-vaHi, my name is Mary Paz.

I am from Camiguin Island, Philippines. It is an island situated in the Northern part of Mindanao and it is very well-known for its mesmerizing tourist spots that capture the heart of every tourist who gets to visit the island. It is also known for its sweet and delicious Lanzones fruit.

I am the youngest among 5 siblings. I grew up in family-oriented household. As early as 5 years old, my parents inculcated in our minds the value of respect, time, and the importance of education. My father who worked as a government employee and my mother a plain housewife, crawled their ways to send us all to school. To cut the story short, my siblings and I finished our college education and was able to pursue our own individual dreams and ambitions in life.

As for my part, I finished my college education In our island with a degree in Accountancy major in Accounting. I chose to study Accountancy because I’ve always wanted to become a CPA. So last 2017, I decided to enroll myself in a review center and took the CPA licensure exam the same year, but unfortunately, I did not pass the exam. My first failure in the said board exam pushed me to pursue my dream even more, so I decided to re-enroll again for the CPALE, but once again failed. I was devastated and I felt like I was a failure for failing myself and my family. But again, I chose to continue with my life and took it as a challenge.

As a fresh graduate and no experience in the real world, I decided to explore and search for jobs. I was hired as a Payroll Officer in a Construction Company. It was my first job so to speak. As a Payroll Officer, it is my responsibility to collect daily, weekly, and monthly employee timesheets. Calculating employee work hours, benefits and deductions, and preparing employee compensation checks using a payroll software.

mary-paz-abrea-vaIt was a very challenging job for me since it was my first job and the responsibility is kind of heavy for a fresh graduate like me. However, the said position honed my skills, knowledge, abilities and more importantly, my attitude. It shaped me and prepared me for a higher responsibility. In a short span of time, from being a Payroll Officer my boss appointed me as the Accounts Payable Officer under the same company. The responsibility has doubled and so did the experiences, knowledge and new discoveries.

As of the moment, I am still working under the same company and I am temporarily in a work at home set up for almost 3 months now due to the pandemic. We’ve been using an accounting tool in our daily transactions. As an Account Payable Officer, this is the tool that I have been using to input all the direct materials needed for our different projects. It is also the same tool that I use to track all expenses, collectibles, unpaid invoices from our suppliers.
Although I do not have a strong background as a Virtual Assistant, I am confident that through my skills, knowledge and abilities to perform my tasks very well, I will be able to land a job in the virtual world. I am eager to learn new things, develop more my skills and enhance my abilities and knowledge in Accounting practice.

I hope you will consider me as a person who could be a valuable asset to your company.
