Queenie Maglasang – Accounting

queenie-maglasang-vaEach of us has our own unique story of our life and here goes mine. Let me share with you how I searched for a greener pasture of myself.

I am Queenie May Maglasang. My family and friends call me “Mai2x”. I am 27 years old from Cebu. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management Accounting. I am living with my grandparents after my parents separated and had their own families. Still, I am blessed to have an Uncle who fed me, sent me to school, and loved me as if I am his own. When I was in college, I didn’t want to be a burden to my grandparents and to my uncle so I went to school in the morning and worked at a fast-food chain at night. Yet my life doesn’t discourage me, instead, it gives me more courage to be successful and that I should strive for my future.

When I got my first job as an accounting staff doing Accounts Receivable, Bank reconciliation, and Bookkeeping, just like any other first-timer, I was really excited about how I can sharpen my knowledge and apply everything I learned from school in the business world. I studied every aspect of my work because I want to be the best at accounting. I remember this professor of mine who told us “Don’t leave that certain job/work if you are not a 100% expert on what you do best because it will help you in the future”.

queenie-maglasang-vaHere comes another opportunity. There was this company that hired me as an Accounting/Finance Associate and it’s really challenging because of the work and tasks. I handle company expenses, bank reconciliation, accounts payable, audits, government reports, and bookkeeping. I then realized that I manage my time, my work and I can say that at the same time I study how a literal business works in this kind of job that I have and I love it. I love it because I have plans to become a CPA someday and a Masters of Business Administration.

As of the moment, I am an accounting associate. I use Xero for my accounting tasks and I am still doing the same job with the same expertise as my previous job has taught me. I can say that I am not stopping to reach my goal and if there are opportunities coming along the way, especially if it will help me to learn more in my field, then I will not hesitate to say No. Now I want to be an Online Freelancer because I want to experience new tasks, new learning, and new responsibilities in this field that gets me more excited. I will strive hard to become a version of myself. As I am always telling myself, a goal with no plan is just a wish.
