Shammah Garbe – General Virtual Assistant
Hi, I’m Shammah Garbe, but you can call me Sham. I’m 24 years old, enjoying my single life with no dependents (yet). I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, a degree that played a huge role in shaping the skills and experiences I’ve honed over the years, leading me to this opportunity of working remotely.
When it comes to work experience, I admit I only have a few things I can share as I was a full-time student and couldn’t commit to part-time jobs. However, I consider myself fortunate to have been in a Communication program that introduced us to the basics of being a Virtual Assistant and the BPO industry.
Three months after graduating, I started my work-from-home career, and I could consider myself so blessed that despite having limited to no experience in the VA industry, I was given the opportunity to be trained and hired as a Virtual Marketing Assistant— my very first job. Committing myself to this role with minimal knowledge was overwhelming, and I won’t deny that there were moments when I wanted to give up because everything seemed new to me.
The first few months were actually tough. As an extrovert, I was used to being in an environment where I interacted with people daily, so the shift to remote work felt isolating at times that I got burnt out. However, as the months passed, I learned to adapt, and through a change in mindset, I started enjoying my work. I began seeing things from a more positive perspective, and since then, my tasks have become more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Now, six months into my journey as a Virtual Assistant, I’ve gained hands-on experience in social media management, creating content calendars and scheduling posts, designing presentations, editing promotional videos, reaching out to potential leads, email marketing, and overall operations coordination. I can confidently say that I learn fast and am always eager to expand my knowledge. Whether working independently or with a team, I am diligent, goal-oriented, resourceful, and detail-oriented—all of which make me an efficient and reliable Virtual Assistant.
Working from home is clearly a different experience from being in an office. There were times I wondered what it would be like to work on-site, but deep down, I know this setup suits me best. It gives me the flexibility to manage my time, allowing me to focus on both personal and professional growth.
I’m excited to keep learning, refining my skills, and growing in my career. Every challenge is an opportunity to improve, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much more I can achieve—not just in my work, but in life as well.
