Shanah Grace Supeda – Virtual Assistant, Customer Service Representative

Hi! I’m Shanah Grace P. Supeda. A graduate of West Visayas State University with a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. Two weeks after my graduation in 2008, I worked as a Customer Service Representative for 4 years and 1 year as a sales agent.

In 2013, I pursued my teaching career in Thailand working as a Math Teacher. At first, I enjoyed my time in Thailand. I love being able to travel for months, work, and enjoy a very stress-free kind of life. As time went by, the excitement of the place lost its touch. I got fed up with city life, the traffic, pollution, running here and there to catch the train, the noise and smell of the crowded streets, missing a lot of family celebrations, reporting to school fresh at 7 AM, and going home exhausted at 5 PM. Perhaps this is what some people call ‘adulting,’ but for me, it was a realization that I lost the excitement that I used to feel and was no longer happy.

It took years for me to accept that I was no longer happy with my work and I needed a new challenge, may it be learning something new, a new place, or new work. In other words, I need something new to keep me excited about life. I just want to be busy, to be excited about something, to learn new things and to be productive. While talking to my friends about this, my teammate/friend when I was in the call center suggested for me to watch TikTok and YouTube videos about Virtual Assistant jobs. And I feel so excited once again because I think this is what I am looking for. So I applied and luckily, I got 2 clients.

I became a part-time Admin assistant for my two clients while still working as a full-time Math Teacher. And this makes me so busy and productive which I like.

I learned different kinds of communication like Slack, Discord, Channel.io, booking concert tickets, hotels, flights, and restaurants, managing my client’s calendar and email and so much more. I also help my client with his/her kid’s school work giving them worksheets (which I make) that they can practice. I’m the one making their business presentations to make it more interactive. I am also good with Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets, and know basic accounting.  Currently, I am studying QuickBooks and Shopify if I have time because I want to learn more skills. When it comes to work I am doing my very best in every task thrown at me.

I consider myself flexible and I can learn easily with technology. I have a hunger for learning and I aim to be the best VA out there.

Working as a virtual assistant makes me realize that this is the life that I crave, staying at home celebrating each moment with my family, petting my dogs, owning my time or traveling anywhere and still being able to work. So I decided to stop teaching and pursue the Virtual Assistant world after 11 years of working abroad. And it makes me excited once again because I learned a lot, that browsers are not only Chrome and Safari, what I am trying to say is there are a lot of options out there virtually, if you are no longer happy, don’t be afraid to make a change, take a chance and break away.
