Ivoree Glare Bating – ESL Teacher
Hello, my name is Ivoree Glare P. Bating, wife of a loving husband and a mother of a beautiful daughter. I am a proud Filipina who grew up in a province and on an island, so that’s why I learned how to live in both kinds of communities. I am the eldest in the family and became a second parent to my two siblings since my father is disabled and a drunkard person. So, as the eldest of the family, I was obliged to assist with my family’s financial needs and wants that’s why at a very young age I learned how to make money on my own.
I supported my studies by making and selling native delicacies and street foods. I also volunteered to work on my classmate’s project to earn money while in school so that I could have my allowance and for my family to eat. With those techniques, I graduated from secondary education with an average grade for me to get some scholarship in college. But sadly, my father won’t allow me to proceed to school. Instead, he brought me to my uncle’s business and he asked me to work there to earn. I was 15 years old during that time, that’s why I can’t apply for a company, and that was my first job.
Time flies too fast, I was 18 years old at that time so I decided to apply to a company and I’m glad I passed and worked there and applied for a scholarship, but sadly I was not able to continue again it’s because of my father. He doesn’t want me to spend my money on school because they need it for food. So I continued working and took a lot of online courses to continue my dream. It’s really hard for me to do those things that I want while supporting my family’s primary needs. Good thing my little sister understood my struggle after she graduated high school, and the same with me, at a very young age, she also worked as a nanny to support our family. At the age of 18, she applied to a company.
And here’s an interesting fact about our working journey. She applied to a call center company at the age of 18, but she was not able to pass for some reason. And during that time, I also applied as a production worker, but I was not able to pass it because I was undernourished. I only weighed 38 kilos while my height was 5 feet and 2 inches. And that’s the primary requirement of working in a production company. So my sister and I decided to switch places. I am going to apply for the call center company, and she’s going as a production worker. And there we have it, we both passed and started working there.
So, here I concluded that our journey won’t stop using rejection. Here I can prove that when there’s a door that closes, there’s another door that opens.
