Jenelyn Vega – General Virtual Assistant, Data Analyst

jenelyn-vega-vaHello, I’m Jenelyn Vega, everyone calls me Yen. I am a mother of two incredible 6 and 5 years old boys. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the University of Cebu. I started working four months before my graduation, which I never anticipated, and started my professional career since then.

My first job was as a Web designer at a BPO Japanese-owned company here in Cebu, Philippines. Amazingly three months after working in the company, they promoted me to Team lead which manages a team of 5 to 10 people, creating and designing websites, checking the team’s website designs, and publishing them to the web. Also experienced content writing and proofreading shortly for a Japanese blog, however, this experience took only a year and a couple of months as the PH branch closed which lead me to my next job as an ICT Administrative Assistant in a retail company.

Never did I expect that I will be in the administrative world but thanks to this, I learned that I am skilled to be flexible, adaptive, work the extra mile, and reliable to do both corporate and operations management.

In this position, I am the main point of contact of the IT department and an assistant to the manager where I do presentations for meetings, document organization, and infographic designs. For some time, I also assisted the CEO and Executives with their conference meetings and designed presentations for them. My day-to-day responsibilities were inventory management, data entry, booking management, and purchasing IT equipment, which I work closely with Logistics and Procurement Departments. Also did help desk and technical support. In the same company, jenelyn-vega-vaI was transitioned to the Applications Development department where I was positioned to be a Programmers Analyst and became the in-house front-end designer. I was also recruited to be a Jr. Project Manager and was able to manage a project which went live successfully. This was a roller coaster ride experience since I was placed in different roles with different responsibilities and able to do them all incredibly.

I enjoy new challenges coming along my way as I always aim to learn every day to enhance my skills and grow – then comes the personal challenge. My eldest had undergone an urgent surgery and I had to leave my career to focus on my family. Unfortunately, after a month of this, the pandemic hit.

I came back to work last year as a Data Analyst and Platforms associate where I do data and social media management, data analysis, reporting, and journey building. This was the start of my remote job. I was very hesitant at first due to no experience of working virtually however with my personal experience and the pandemic that’s happening, it gave me the drive to pursue working from home as I realized time is very important especially when you are already a mother. My aim is to have a work-life balance – that I can be the best in both worlds. Work, grow, learn more, and excel in my professional career and at the same time provide for the needs of my kids while also being at home with them.
