Joanne Navallasca – Creative and Content Writing

joanne-navallasca-profileHello! My name is Joanne Pauline Navallasca, but you can call me… Hmm… nah, you can call me whatever you want. 🙂 My friends sometimes call me Joe, Pau, Line, Anne, or whatever they feel like. But my family calls me Sweet 😀

Honestly, I don’t really know where to start. I’m not really much of a storyteller…

I was born in the province of Antique (pronounced as an-tee-ke) and raised in Iloilo. There are only four of us in the family – me, my mother, my father, and my little brother who is 4 years younger than me. We lived a simple life.

My mother and father are both private employees. They don’t earn much. They are both minimum wage earners but they provide us with everything we need. We have a roof over our heads and we get to eat three times a day.

I can say I’m pretty lucky. I had a very fun childhood.

But am I contented? Maybe…

Or perhaps I could also say that I’m ambitious and certainly want more. Let’s fast-forward to the year when I started joanne-navallasca-profilemaking big decisions of my own.

It’s okay – I’m going to make this really quick!

In April 2016, I graduated with a degree in Biology. A month after that, I accepted a job as a secretary while I was preparing for the Licensure Exam I was about to take in December that same year. But when the results came out, I failed (sad huhuhu).

Then in February 2017 I went to Manila and started working at a Manufacturing company as the Quality Assurance Officer. And guess what, I wasn’t hired as a regular employee – I was actually the head of the department! I was a fresh graduate and was immediately tasked to manage adult men 10 years older than me. It was scary. But it wasn’t a challenge I couldn’t tackle. One year later, in 2018, I resigned from that job. Reason: Pay was too low and the stress was high.

I got a job at a BPO Company as Back Office Support. This time, the pay was high and stress was minimal. I was really happy working there. But, August 2018 came and I found out I was pregnant and November 2018, my baby girl was born. That was the time that my life completely changed.

joanne-navallasca-family-with-daughterYou see after I left home, life hasn’t been easy for me. My boyfriend and I started living together so that we could split the expenses. We both invested in a business that failed after several months. There were times that we only had 500 PHP ($10 USD) budget in a week. Those were the hard days. But now, we’re starting to get back on track.

In the same month my daughter was born, I came across a post regarding online jobs. And I thought, why don’t I try this while I’m at home and on maternity leave? Of course, I wasn’t really serious… until I wanted to spend more time with my baby and just couldn’t leave her at home.

I invested in a laptop and internet and in March 2019, I resigned from the BPO and started my freelancing career. It was the greatest decision of my life! I get to take care of my family and earn money at the same time.

Honestly, I’ve never been happier.

I have a lot of experience working in the corporate world and in different industries at that. The more I think about it, I am too far away from my original dream to be a Microbiologist. But right now, I don’t care about it anymore. Because right at this moment, I’m living a dream (and I don’t want to make up any time soon).

So, I guess that’s about it. If you wish to know more, feel free to ask me when we’re working on a project. I’ll be glad to share more of my story. Haha.

Oh, I forgot to tell you about my hobbies and interests. Well, in my free time, I usually do calligraphy or watch Korean dramas. I also have a great love for cats. And… hmm… oh, I also write content for my own blog (haha).

And that’s me! Thanks for reading through this long story. I swear I really tried to keep this short. Haha.
