Marie Imelda Soriano – General Virtual Assistant

Hi, I’m Marie Imelda Soriano; my friends and colleagues call me Marie. I am happily married with two boys. I graduated from the University of San Carlos-Cebu City with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Double Majoring in Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship.

My work experience has always revolved around marketing and writing. Fresh off graduation, I started as a marketing coordinator for a local mall in our town, Robinsons Place Gensan. I was a pioneering personnel and the only marketing person in charge of all the marketing activities of the mall, including its grand opening, events, promos, and advertising. After a few years, an opportunity opened for me to work as a marketing coordinator for an import/export company, which allowed me to travel around Asia. It opened my horizon to meeting people of different cultures and doing business with them.

I have always imagined myself working in an office-based type of work, but having a family and raising my two boys by myself made it impossible for me to do so. That’s why I’m really grateful for home-based jobs today because I still get to use my skills and even hone them.

My first online, home-based job experience was as a virtual assistant where I got to respond to inquiries from the website. But it didn’t last long since automations were set in place and my services were no longer needed. And so I ventured into writing. I’ve been writing since my grade school years, and it did come in handy for landing me a writing job. I still had more time to spare so I looked for other job opportunities and landed a social media management role.

I felt that I grew with the industry. When I started social media marketing for this US-based company, I had very little knowledge, and after working for this company for 5 years, I am confident to say that I do have the knowledge to handle clients and help them grow their digital presence.

Over the years of working as a writer and as a social media manager, I’ve learned so many skills that are related to both writing and social media marketing. I am no expert, but I am now knowledgeable about SEO, graphic design, and video editing.

As I advance in my career, I aim to gain new skills and knowledge, which I can apply to both my work and personal life.
