Melanie Padilla – Industrial Engineer, Document Controller

melanie-padilla-vaI’m Melanie Abel Padilla, married, with two kids (9 and 3 years old). I’m an Industrial Engineer who graduated in 2003 from Batangas State University, Philippines.

I grew up in a big family. My parents were blessed to have 9 children and I am the eldest. Sounds funny but it’s true – almost every year or two years; my mother will give birth and that time I was so young and troubled seeing we’re getting big and we don’t have money for our growing family. The good thing is, I grew up in a Christian family that molded me to be strong and encouraged me to keep moving, and not give up at all times.

As I work hard, God is working harder. I had scholarships from High School to College and this is how God sustained me in the midst of challenging times.

Right before my college graduation, I was hired as Calibration & Instrumentation Engineer in a manufacturing company. In the Engineering Department, I was exposed to different Engineering fields such as Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Chemical, Sanitary, Pollution Control and other things in the Production Area. I was trained to calibrate basic instruments like Pressure Gauges, Weighing Scales, and Temperature Controllers & Recorders. I had a list of all the machines and equipment in the plant and its corresponding Calibration Plan, which I monitored and ensured to be kept updated. In addition, I was in-charged of all ISO-related documents in Engineering Department.

My next job was as a Production Engineer in the construction industry, where I was monitoring the progress of Pipe Supports from Fabrication up to its shipping in New Caledonia, Australia. I was reporting to the Australian Resident Engineer and Project Manager.

I was hired again in a Manufacturing Plant and this time as Quality Assurance Supervisor. Having experienced working in Calibration of Equipment became my edge in getting this job. I was handling and maintaining the Quality Management System (ISO9001) of the company and was also supervising the Quality Control Technician in their Incoming and Outgoing inspection; also dealing with different suppliers and clients for any non-conformance.

Then I went to Singapore and worked as a Document Controller for almost seven years under a multi-national construction company and finished two big projects: Asia Square & Marina One. My knowledge in the engineering field was enhanced by dealing with different contractors and colleagues. I was responsible for all the documents under my department, coordinating with different sub-contractors for their Shop Drawing submissions, Document Submissions, Method Statement, Material Approval submissions, and other documents. We’re using ACONEX software in Asia Square as our Document Management System. I was preparing Weekly Progress Reports and assisting my superior with monthly Interim Payments.

melanie-padilla-vaWhen the project ended, I had a newborn baby. I temporarily left my career and decided to go back to the Philippines and be a full-time mom. Now that my kids are not babies anymore, I want to come back to work and start as a Virtual Assistant.

Here is the summary of my skills:

  • Industrial Calibration
  • Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Control
  • Inventory, Purchase Orders, etc.
  • Document Control

With all the knowledge I had gained from all the industries I’d rendered my service, I believe somehow I could find a client who would find my talent and experiences helpful in his/her business.
