Pixy Grana – Marketing Manager

pixy-grana-vaHello, my name is Pixy. At work I prefer to be called Rain because most of the time, whenever I’m taking phone calls and I tell the customer my name, I always end up explaining it’s Pixy as they always mistake it for Trixie or Dixie.

I am 25 years old and a mother of three wonderful kids. I am a college undergraduate of two courses – Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English. I became a mother at a young age and since then I had to do my best to be able to help my common-law husband provide for our family.

I started my career as a Sales Consultant for a telecommunication company at the age of 18. It’s where I learned my people skills and after that I worked for a local TV company as a Marketing Executive selling airtime slots to clients who wished to promote their businesses. I worked while I studied at college.

In my 3rd year of my Secondary Education course, my attention was caught by a job hiring for the BPO Industry and I was hired as a Fraud and Account Specialist for eBay North America. I gave up college and decided to work full time as I became excited about the pay and the idea of being able to provide for my kids made me happy. Little did I know this was the stepping stone for many great opportunities for me in this Industry.

After a year of working in a different city, I decided to go home to be with my family and applied as a chat and inbound phone support person for a call center start up. Two months after taking phone calls and chats as an agent, I was promoted as a Supervisor because my boss was really impressed with my performance. Back when I was still working for eBay, I was always a top agent and it didn’t change even when I was at the small company. I had always been competitive even back in high school. I was always top of my class and was often sent to compete in inter school competitions like Science Quiz Bee, Extemporaneous Speaking Contest, Feature writing, poster making and Journalism.

pixy-grana-vaAs I worked as a Supervisor and later Project Manager, I learned the ropes in acquiring clients. I also learned that being a freelancer pays you better. In the call center start-up where I worked for 3 years, we handled 5 accounts per agent per shift: 3 phone support account and 1 chat account and 1 email. Although it was exhausting and I was underpaid, I was somehow happy as it was where I learned how to multitask, how to work under pressure and how to be a very efficient worker.

When I got my first client as a freelancer, I was very happy. I worked as a cold caller and was paid the minimum hourly rate. I got my experience in appointment setting and sales while calling for campaigns like medicare, solar and real estate. After a year, I was hired as a Compliance Manager for a real estate company in Philadelphia. My boss was a great person and he taught me so many things while assigning new tasks to me like Quickbooks, accounting and client handling. I was very happy with the earnings even though I had to work 7 days a week and 9 hours a day. Unfortunately, just recently, the company had to downsize and sadly I was one of the people they had to let go.

So here I am now looking for new opportunities. I am worried as I feel like I am starting again from zero with a family to feed and bills to pay, but I am confident and passionate about my job and I have solid skills which I know will help me excel in this industry.

I am the kind of person who is not afraid to take on new challenges and I always find positive things even amidst a stressful conversation with an irate customer. I am hardworking and I always make sure I go above and beyond my client’s expectations.
