Shayan Grace Pilones – Accounting, Quickbooks

shayan-grace-pilones-vaHi! My name is Shayan Grace Pilones but you can just call me Shay. I am a loving wife and a hands-on mother of 3 kids. I am a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate from the Mindanao State University at Naawan. My first and last corporate job was being an Accounting Clerk at a certain company but was assigned to different departments. I really wanted my first job to be my last, but life took a rough turn that made me prioritize my family over work. I had to give up my corporate job to be a full-time mother.

I was first assigned in the Property Management Division of the company which mainly deals with the construction of buildings as well as houses for the company’s Housing Cooperative. In this department, aside from being the first Accounting Clerk that has no accounting system to use, I also had to deal with the members/clients and even with the construction workers. It was not just my skills in Accounting that was enhanced but even my ability to deal with other people was also improved. I was exposed more to the construction side of the company during my time in that department.
After I got married, I was then assigned to the Accounting Department of the Head Office of the same company but I was still handling the accounting works of my first assignment while waiting for the new Accounting Clerk for my replacement. The multi-tasking of 2 departments was not easy but still, I was able to have my deliverables on time. Even now when I recall that moment of my corporate job, I still can’t believe that I was able to multi-task in learning a new role while still handling the previous one.

I was a bit hesitant at first because I didn’t know much about the transactions of the branches but still, I told myself that I need to be resilient in order for me to grow. Though I have my share of experience already in dealing with clients, my patience was greatly tested during my stay in the branch because every now and then, clients came to the table and ask for some information or anything regarding their business in the branch. This affected my time in finishing some of my accounting-related tasks earlier so I have to double my time so that I can keep up with the pace and be able to finish all the work during the day.

Though my corporate job gave me much stress before, I can still say that I am happy and grateful for the hardships that I encountered during my stay there. This is because I believe that all of those greatly helped me develop not just my Accounting skills, but as well as my patience, my ability to work with others, and in dealing with clients. All of these, I know, will help me in my journey into the online workplace.

I know that working from home would be completely different from my experience in the corporate world but I am up to the challenge. I know that I can be resilient and I will do my best to adapt to the set-up of working online. I believe that everything can be solved if only we give our all, be teachable, be able to ask the right people if needed, and be responsible to deliver.

My aim is to grow further as a Virtual Assistant and be able to learn new skills and knowledge so that I can be the best in the field that I may be in and I can share it also to others.
