Tim Tio – General Manager, Event Management

Good day everyone!

I’m Tim A Tio, 38 years old. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. It took me a while to finish my degree because after I graduated high-school, I immediately took a job under the family business, which lasted for 6 years. I started from the bottom doing sales, and being a stock clerk, cashier, until the last position I held was head of procurement of the furniture division where I frequently traveled in most parts of Asia sourcing new product designs and attending trade shows as well. Apart from those job functions, I also do basic accounting, payroll, and some admin work. During my tenure in the family business, I learned the basics of business operations. Soon after, I decided to resign because I wanted to be independent.

In 2008, I shifted to a new industry which is travel. My interest to venture into this ignited during the time I frequently traveled to many parts in Asia. During my tenure there, I learned how to organise flight reservations, basic ticketing, visa documentation, itinerary planning, and vacation package creation right through to selling.

On my 4th year, I started leading groups from short haul flights (Asia) to long haul destinations (Middle East and Europe). From small groups composed of no more than 30 persons to handling groups of more than 200 people per departure. Working in the travel industry opened new doors and learnings for me. Apart from meeting different nationalities and learning new cultures, I became the head of the Outbound division, where I applied the learnings I got from the family business like basic accounting, payroll, and taxations. I learned how to create marketing collaterals using Picsart, Adobe since our team was small with minimal budget so we had to do everything ourselves.

Aside from being a travel agent, I also did travel exhibitions with a few travel agent friends back in 2013. For 6 years, we successfully created the largest travel shows in the region. This is where I learned the ins and out of exhibition planning, negotiation to execution.

With all the experiences I gained throughout my career in both retail and service, I firmly believe that I can be a valuable asset to your organisation.
