Vergie Povadora – Administrative Assistant
Hi I’m Vergie Povadora.
I graduated Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Management Accounting. I have been working in, and possess years of experience in a corporate company and Local Government Unit as an Administrative Assistant. I also have years of experience working as a Virtual Administrative Assistant / E-commerce with Shopify, Amazon, and eBay.
The True Story of My First 2 years as a Virtual Assistant…
It was 3 years ago that I finally took the plunge and said goodbye to full time employment, stepping into the world of officially being a freelance Virtual Assistant.
Throughout my career I’ve always had an aptitude for Administrative Assistant work and have always been the go-to person in my roles. So it just seemed to develop over the years. It’s always been a dream of mine to be my own boss and work the way I want while taking care of my family… So following the birth of my now 2-year-old daughter, it seemed like the natural progression to make and I was lucky to be in a position to be able to take the leap of faith and try.
I was excited – and at the same time nervous. There would be no office politics to deal with, no daily commute in terrible traffic and the ability to work around my family and be there for taking care of my two sons, my baby daughter, Iana and my husband.
When I first started out I did enroll for an online course to add more knowledge about Virtual Assistant tasks. I also performed some research and had my own study. Finally I decided to start my career within the online business world.
At first I offered my free online services, two months contract with 56 hours a week and it was totally free, no service charge. When I finished my two months contract with my first client (and for me it was hard and challenging) even if it is free I’ve learned from it and I’m forever grateful to have experienced of it. I did learn and I realised that it is not necessary have to have a ‘niche. Now I don’t completely agree. The last three years I have worked with a diverse range of small businesses, be it a Ecommerce Company, Social Media Groups, Tutor and Surveyors and each one has different requirements… ‘niches’, so to speak.
In a way, I’m glad that I haven’t stuck to a particular niche for work because that has enabled me to gain experience and contacts that I probably wouldn’t have got had I of restricted myself to one particular industry. However, I might change that system two years down the road and decide to focus more on one specific ‘super client’. But for now, if I’m capable of doing the work that’s needed then I’ll do it. That’s what is great about being a Virtual Assistant – the work is so varied and different. I like the challenge it brings and I like keeping up with the new technology and programmes. And I like that Virtual Assistant Life is always on the GO!
