Zarrah Jane Cuizon – Virtual Assistant, Transcriptionist

Hi, I am Zarrah Jane Cuizon, you can call me Z. I am a single 32-year-old from the Philippines. I studied a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at AMA University. Before working from home and becoming a virtual assistant, I worked as a factory worker, and after that, I worked as a transcriptionist for a BPO company and a support representative, also for a BPO company.

When the pandemic started, I was unable to work in an office setup because of restrictions and protocols, so I had to look for a way to pay bills and to support my family. I researched and found the virtual assistant world. It was tough at first because I had to provide for my own computer in order to start working, and I had to really study, especially on how to learn skills that I can use to start my virtual assistance journey. Amazingly, I landed my first client and learned a lot of things about website building for small scale businesses. During the days where I don’t have work, I studied the Spanish language since being a bilingual is a big achievement for me. Until now, I am still studying Spanish in my free time, hoping that one day I can be fluent in that language too.

Working from home made me realise a lot of things. Things like I can have a work-life balance where I can work and still be with my family. Also, working from home made me more focused with my work since it’s quieter and there’s no constant distractions, the opportunity to grow in my career since being a virtual assistant requires skill development and being knowledgeable is really an edge. Working from home also made me more diligent when it comes to studying and working, made me resourceful and go to work ready and equipped with a lot of knowledge and skills.

I believe that being a virtual assistant is not just coming to work and doing your job, you also need to care about your client’s business and be more than willing to help and assist in their business. Being a virtual assistant not just made me provide for my family’s needs, but also their wants, and I am always grateful for that. My aim is to help my client’s business thrive, to further my career as a virtual assistant and to continue to provide for my family.
