Charmaine Liz Lagutan – Healthcare Virtual Assistant

Hi, I am Charmaine Liz Lagutan, but most people know me as Charm.

In a family of five, I am the second eldest, currently unmarried, and joyfully nurturing nine energetic puppies as their furmom.

I am also a book and nature enthusiast. I do have deep appreciation for motivational and self-help books. I find solace and inspiration within the pages of these genres. And as a nature enthusiast, I am constantly motivated by the beauty and tranquility of the wonders of our environment.

With regards to my education, I attained my Nursing degree from Trinity University of Asia – St. Luke’s College of Nursing and am professionally certified as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines.

In the early stages of my career, I committed myself to refining my craft through diverse training opportunities and voluntary initiatives, which not only honed my skills in patient care delivery but also deepened my capacity for empathy and understanding towards those under my care.

I once thought that my career options as a nurse were restricted to the four corners of the hospital, but venturing into administrative support roles shed light on my genuine aspirations in life.

Transitioning into administrative support roles, I began my career as an executive assistant to the General Manager in an HMO Broker Company. My responsibilities ranged from inbox management to handling basic logistics and other ad hoc tasks in order to give my client the time and flexibility she needed to fulfill her core responsibilities and engage in deeper, more focused work.

As my journey progressed, new pathways emerged, inviting me to broaden my horizon and venture into the field of US healthcare administration.

In this realm, I’ve navigated the complexities of the US healthcare system, from meticulous clinical documentation to accurate processing of prior authorizations for medications, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Through this experience, I’ve come to realize the importance of communication, collaboration, continuous learning, and adaptation in optimizing patient health and improving the revenue cycle.

In a parallel perspective, the pandemic opened my eyes to remote work opportunities. It served as a catalyst for me to reevaluate my life and work preferences.

With my introverted nature, remote work has provided me with increased focus and productivity by allowing me to create a personalized environment with fewer distractions. I find this type of work environment less stressful than the traditional office setting, as it allows me to seamlessly integrate work and life, ultimately leading to greater overall satisfaction and well-being.

Additionally, it gives me a safe space to exercise autonomy in exploring new ideas, approaches and strategies to alleviate my client’s workload and elevate my client’s experience.

Realizing that time is the scarcest resource, but at the same time a bedrock upon which all other management efforts are built, then managing it wisely underpins overall success.

Upholding this principle, I aim to strike a balance between providing my clients with the time they need and cherishing meaningful moments with my family. This commitment to juggling professional obligations and personal priorities remains a central value in my life.

As I demonstrate my knowledge and expertise with a consistently positive attitude, I aim to become not only a reliable partner, but a trusted leader in this industry.
