Ferry Nalugon – Administrative Assistant

ferry-mae-nalugon-vaHi! My name is Ferry Mae Nalugon and I want to share with you a brief story of my life.

I am from a small town of Polomolok, South Cotabato, Philippines. A loving single mother of a 2-year old son. I came from a broken family. I am an only child who lived with my mother’s uncle’s family. Both of my parents have their own families and here I am with my son. Way back in my elementary and high school days, I was a scholar of our town. In my college days, I was a Dean’s lister.

I graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at AMA Computer College in 2019. I immediately got hired as an IT administrative assistant at the Bureau of Internal Revenue where I had my On the Job Trainee. The firm hired me after my graduation as a contractual and worked for them for more than a year. My specific task there is communicating with other departments or taxpayers to quickly resolve network or technical issues. Also, I assist taxpayers in how to use the systems that the firm has and provide clerical/admin support to the IT department.

After a year of work experience with a salary that is quite low, my uncle decided to uproot me from the Philippines and I went to Doha, Qatar under my uncle’s family visa to work there. I got my job as secretary/receptionist at PEPCO Qatar, a Mechanical Engineering Plumbing company. I worked directly with senior managers. Providing them general administrative and clerical support on a daily basis.

ferry-mae-nalugon-vaMy work lasted only for 5 months because I got pregnant with my son and had to go back to the Philippines immediately. I was devastated with what happened and with my poor decisions at that time but I mustered up some courage and told myself that everything happened for a reason. My dreams got blurry and I felt lost but when I saw my son, that was when I became purpose-driven. I became a full time mom for more than two years to fully focus on raising my son.

The pandemic came and it hit my family’s way of living. Thankfully I am a breastfeeding mom and I can provide the basic needs of my son. But daily expenses are quite big since he is now growing fast. Right now, I’m looking to leverage everything I’ve learned before and get back to work. The passion I have now has a clear purpose. The goals now have a plan.

It’s 100% true when they say that experience is the best teacher you’d have in all aspects of your life. It teaches you the best lessons you’ve ever had. Uncertainties are temporary. Accept what has happened, toughen yourself up to be better every day in anyways. Negativity won’t lead you to places where you want to be and it will never change anything.
Thank you so much for your time reading my story and I hope it gives you a little positivity in life.
