Jestoni Villagracia – Finance and Administrative Assistant

jestoni-villagracia-vaHi, I’m Jestoni Villagracia; you can call me Jes. I came from a poor family, and my father’s income wasn’t sufficient to send me to college in our city. Thus, I applied for a Recoletos Educational Assistance for Deserving Students (READS) Scholarship at the University of Negros Occidental—Recoletos. I was blessed to be granted the said scholarship in full. For 5 years, I studied a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and worked at the same time as a student assistant at the College of Business and Accountancy. Being a student assistant was a great privilege, and it gave me an early experience of what really takes place in a real-world workplace.

In May 2012, I was blessed to graduate from college after five long years of hard work. After school, I applied for work at the John B. Lacson College Foundation, and I was hired as an accounting clerk. My job consists of encoding accounts receivable and assisting in various clerical functions. I only worked there from May 2012 up to October 2012, because there’s this lingering desire of mine to become a certified public accountant. Always believing that I can pass the CPA Board Exam, I was able to find a sponsor to cover the tuition fee for the PRTC Review Center located in my hometown, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. I resigned from my work and started to review for the board exam scheduled for May 2013. The review process was quite gruesome due to the exam’s scope, and the schedule of the review was 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

jestoni-villagracia-vaFinally, May 2013 came, and I had my shot at becoming a certified public accountant. I was both blessed and fortunate to be able to pass the exam on the first try. After this chapter, I was hired as an internal auditor at the largest bus company in the country, Vallacar Transit Inc. (Yanson Group of Bus Companies). The job consists of the examination of the financial and operational records of both the head office and the 14 branches nationwide. I then got promoted to Officer in Charge (Supply Chain) of the company’s Cebu Purchasing Office during the last months of my tenure in the company. In relation to the supply chain job, I was able to finish and become a graduate of a Diploma in Supply Chain Management at the University of San Jose—Recoletos.

On September 1, 2019, I started a new job located in Boracay Island. I was designated as the Finance and Administrative Officer of Sunshine Inns, Inc. (known as D’Mall of Boracay). Performed managerial functions and reported updates during monthly Treasury, Mancom, and Execom Zoom meetings. Also carried out tasks such as bookkeeping and coding of rental income, security deposits, operating expenses, and payroll preparation. Moreover, our Managing Director is a British citizen, so I got some experience dealing with a foreign superior.

I’ve been practicing my profession for more than nine years through private practice. I think I’m the best fit for the job because I’m reliable and don’t hop from job to job. Moreover, for me, it’s all about providing for my family. I’m willing to work hard and give 100% to learn what I need to learn to be effective on the job. Last but not least, I’m gearing towards work-from-home jobs because it’s more economic (fewer expenses, especially transportation expenses), many of the said jobs are high paying, and it’s beneficial career-wise. Many thanks!
