Rhea De Ramos – Administrative Assistant, ESL

Rhea-De-Ramos-vaHi! I’m Rhea Me De Ramos, 26 years old.

I am the youngest child in our family. I have eight siblings, five sisters and three brothers. Growing up was very challenging for me. In fact, it was difficult because when I was eight years old my father passed away. Being the youngest child, I needed to be strong and positive in life.

My parents are both farmers, but when my father passed away, my older brothers and sister took the responsibility and we work so hard so that we can sustain our everyday needs. At my young age, I could always see their sacrifices and I can’t deny myself seeing them working so hard under the heat of the sun. And also my mother sells some fish at the supermarket to add some income to our family.

When I was in college, I strived so hard so that I could be a blessing to my family. When I have school projects and need money, I will make sure to not ask my mother or my siblings. What I do is to make my classmates projects and they pay for it. I also sell some fried fish at our dorm (not so fancy dorm) and cellphone loads. That’s the way I can sustain my allowance every day. By God’s grace, I graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education.

Rhea-De-Ramos-vaI started working as a teacher for two years in a private company where my skills and talents developed. I have a long patience and flexibility and I assure that my boss and my students were satisfied with my work. It is important also to have a basic knowledge about graphic organisers or editing photos.

But due to the pandemic, I lost my job. I have been staying at home and am worried about where I will get income to support my mother and sustain our daily needs. I promised myself that I will help my parents if I have a stable job. It’s really hard to find a job in the midst of a pandemic but I need to be positive and hopeful. I know everything happens for a reason and soon the door of opportunity will be open.

I know that I developed skills such as having a positive attitude at work, being calm in the midst of pressure, and being flexible in every task. In this situation, I learned how to value my job and appreciate every little thing and I will treasure whatever job is given to me. Also, to help not only my customers but also my co-workers as well. I believe I can share my talent and ability to create excellence as well as my honesty, skills, passion, and joy in doing my task.
