Rowena Bitangcor – Client Reporting Specialist, Admin Assistant
Hi, I am Rowena Bitangcor. You can call me Yna for short. I’m a single mom of one boy. My son is 20 years old and in College right now.
I graduated from De Ocampo Memorial College as a Medical Secretary. I started working at 22 years old and have been working since then. I have experience working in different kinds of jobs since I graduated. I also took on several odd jobs early in my career to gain work experience and earn money. But, I will focus on and share my four significant recent work experiences.
I worked as a Data Entry and Quality Assurance for LAS Management from 2000 to 2006. We handled the data conversion for a Government agency. I worked there until the contract between our company and the agency ended. Then, I applied for the same position at BDO and worked there for two years from 2006 to 2008, handling the backend for credit card applications. While working at BDO, I met my previous supervisor, who was connected to Unisys, and she offered me a job. I was compelled to accept the job because of the working schedule. My working hours at BDO were on a graveyard shift. Also, I already gave birth to my son at that time, it solidified my decision to accept the job. I worked at Unisys as an Admin Assistant/Secretary, and it lasted for 14 years.
Late 2019 was a tough time for me. I’ve got a health issue, but Unisys is very lenient and supportive of me. They allowed me to continue working with them even during my treatment and made a way for me to work from home during the pandemic. But as my health declined, my self-confidence declined too. I felt I was no longer an asset to the company and my team, so I resigned.
I took the necessary rest for a year and regained my health. Then, I got a job as a Client Reporting Specialist at QuantumLinx Pty. It lasted 6 months because I’m only a substitute to one of the employees who needed to rest.
Since I have had experience working online, I have become interested in learning about jobs that will allow me to work from home. So, I’ve decided to learn how to become a Virtual Assistant.
I tried submitting applications to different virtual agencies while learning the basics of being a Virtual Assistant. I also learned about Social Media Management. Luckily, one of my friends on Facebook helped me gain experience working as a Social Media Manager at a dental clinic for two months. Though the experience was short and the payment was minimal, I’ve gained knowledge from working with them and used my Social Media Management learnings. Currently, I’m continuously working on learning more about Virtual Assistants, not only about the tools and applications but also about the culture, best practices, and attitude of working from home that will help me land a client in the future.
