Sorainie Palawan – Administrative Assistant

sorainie-palawan-vaHi, My Name is Sorainie. My name is kinda unique because it came from 2 words SO – RAINY. I was born on a rainy day. My mom told me it was raining non-stop on the day I was born.

I have big dreams and I am working hard to turn them into a reality. I studied Medical Technology because my plan before was to live the American Dream. I wanted to obtain my certificate after I finishing my degree and I will continue my journey in the USA. I worked for 2 years in a hospital setting to have medical experience, however, the salary was very low. It cannot sustain my family’s needs. I decided to resign.

Maybe destiny has a different plan for me. I just kept going. I tried different things to help and support my family since I decided to be single forever and focus my life on my senior parents.

My hobbies are watching TV series like Manifest, Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, and Nurse. I also love re-watching marvel movies over and over again.

sorainie-palawan-vaBefore the pandemic started, I was working as a collection officer in a BPO company, which is owned by an Australian client. I was a team lead handling debt collection due to a car accident. I resigned due to the pandemic. It took me a year and six months to find a remote work opportunity, all thanks to Sir Alan.

Since the pandemic started, job-seeking became a jungle of competition. I know I’m not a perfect and excellent VA, but I’ll do what I’m good at and that’s being hardworking and always hungry to learn. Finding work is like treasure hunting. During my journey, I found junk, bronze, or silver. If I’m really lucky, I can find gold. What I mean by junk is some recruiters are scammers, bronze means the pay is low and taking advantage of the situation, silver means somehow stable work, and gold is of course my dream job.

I took a leap of faith coupled with lots of prayers. I will do my best with my determination and commitment. By keeping this job, I know I’m in the right place. I feel so grateful that I work in the comforts of my home and won’t have to expose myself outside just to make a living.
