Julie Duque – General Virtual Assistant, ECommerce, Customer Support

julie-ann-duque-vaHi, Julie Ann Duque here! Happily married and a proud mother of 2. I graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. I was raised by a single mom together with our very dear grandma. Growing up in poverty taught me empathy and perseverance. I made sure to focus in school and always dreamt of building a life that’d look different than my childhood.

After college, I already knew I’d be responsible for supporting my family financially. I’ve had a couple of local employments but they all couldn’t suffice for our needs. I took a leap of faith, left my province all by myself, and moved to one of the Philippines’ highly urbanized cities to work in a BPO company. And I believe it was the proudest decision I’ve made – stepping out of my comfort zone. I’m a typical shy Filipina, yet very eager to learn and succeed in everything I do. Years later, I developed strong communication skills and discovered my passion for customer service.

Having my firstborn during the pandemic forced me to stay home and become a full-time mom. But because I’m a breadwinner, and I thirst for career development, I started searching for work-from-home jobs. Luckily, I got myself a very good client who has a startup eCommerce business. I worked remotely as an Email Customer Support for over 4 years. I’ve gained a whole lot more experiences even outside my expertise; from dropshipping, managing orders, fulfillment, and logistics tracking, to creating listings, uploading Youtube videos, and handling a small team to make sure the operation goes smoothly.

julie-ann-duque-vaOver time, I’ve also learned some valuable lessons in life. Always be grateful for everything, because they always happen for a good reason. Be responsible for your choices and actions, whether it be at work or in life. The impact can be positive or negative, but there is always a consequence. Lastly, be patient. Stop rushing. Great things take time, as the cliché goes.

I’m honestly still not sure of where I want to be and what I really want to become. However, I’m certain that I will continually learn and be open to changes and challenges to keep growing personally and professionally.
