Lynette Datuin – General Virtual Assistant

lynette-datuin-vaHi, I am Lynette Datuin, you can call me LY. I am a mother of 2 wonderful boys. I am an undergrad in Hospitality and Restaurant Services. I got pregnant with my son and got married as well until life happened; the marriage didn’t work out. I had to figure out how I and my son would survive along with the decision to be separated from his father.

I decided to enter the BPO Industry. At first, it wasn’t that easy. I applied to 8 companies, I only got hired by the 9th company which is Telus International. I was hired as a Customer Service Representative handling financial accounts. Given that I have a little bit of expectation that customers from this account will not be so kind, I didn’t get overwhelmed, In fact, I was able to set a certain goal that led me to be a performer on our account.

For some reason, I had to consider a different company, I resigned from Telus and applied to Concentrix. I was hired as a Technical Support Representative. Not as easy as before but got more pay because of the incentives. Every day, we have to handle different types of technical issues and concerns, along with every call we also need to upsell or at least pitch the promotions – which allows me to learn strategies for upselling. I set again a goal for myself as the upselling is part of our metrics, and I have to exceed it. I’ve been part of the top performers as well on our account.

lynette-datuin-vaAnd then covid came. At first, we were given a chance to have accommodation near our office while some of the companies were sending their employees for a work-from-home setup – I still feel lucky to have my job during these days. Then a month after, the company granted the work-from-home setup. Since then, I started to feel the convenience of working in the comfort of my home. We’re all aware that this isn’t a forever setup so even before we were asked to report back to the office, I took the risk in resigning from this job not because I don’t want to work for this company, but aside from I just gave birth to my youngest, I want to be able to take care of him while working.

My colleague asked me to send a cv to her current job – it is a freelancing job based in the USA. I am grateful to be given a chance to be working with them. I was hired as a Sales Development Representative. I learned a lot, especially in the Sales field. Email Marketing Strategies, Cold Calling, Closing Deals – I may not be able to master everything when it comes to sales, but I believe in being open to learning new things.

Overall, life isn’t easy as well as jobs that you may encounter but what matters most is how you handle situations that may come along the way. Being able to adapt to the industry while prioritizing the Work-Life balance is the best work setup you could ever have.

I strive to be successful in this industry and gain more knowledge and skills that I can use in work and in life.
