Marjorie Caparas – Administrative Assistant

Hello. My name is Marjorie Caparas but you can call me Marj. I am 31 years old and currently working as a Spare Part Control Supervisor in a manufacturing company for almost 3 years now, but I have been working in this industry under the Engineering Department for 10 years and counting. I am an undergraduate scholar with an educational background in Associate in Computer Science major in Programming. I wasn’t able to finish my studies due to financial challenges.

I had my first job at the age of 18 in a Semi-conductor manufacturing company where I worked as a Machine Part Controller under the Production Engineering Department. Being a Spare Controller is quite challenging as it requires multitasking tedious work including analysing, managing, controlling, monitoring, and replenishing spare parts.

I’ve gained so many lessons within the 7 years and 7 months I’ve spent in my first job. First, in order to deliver better results, I must understand the existing flow of my job, the nature of it, and how it should be done. From here, I can now see the big picture and can detect areas for improvement. That was a great experience for me and it enabled me to explore more and widen my Technical understanding and critical assessment skills.

Unfortunately, the company that I was working for closed their business and I had to transfer to Japan. I had to start from scratch – enter my first VA job. I was outsourced as a Virtual Assistant and learned some new skill sets for more than a year. To be honest, I loved working in the comfort of my home, however, the work schedule was not favourable for me so I had to resign.

I opted to look for another job, which took me back to Material handling. I worked as a Stockroom Custodian. My work includes identification of category, labeling and orderly for fast retrieval purposes, detection of an error, due date reminders for overdue delivery, understanding and applying conditional formatting at excel monitoring file, and formulating excel functions for inventory management. All these made the Stockroom highly effective in providing the production and maintenance needed for their respective production consumables.

Right now, I’m on my next phase of learning and that is delegating the standard of work that I want to achieve for my whole Spare Part Control Team. As an Overseer, I see to it that my team fully understands the purpose of why we exist in the first place, how we are going to provide our customers the high quality service and give the best solution for every problem.
