Medilyn Ramayla – Virtual Assistant, Financial Planning Assistant

Hi there! My name is Medilyn but I prefer to be called Medz.

I am 34 years old and a mother of one. I have been working since 2008. Most of those years were spent working in a BPO Industry that is from 2010 until 2021. I have worked in various positions such as Customer Service Representative, Technical Support Representative, Billing Specialist, Team Leader, Dispatcher, Accounts Receivable Specialist, Financial Planning Admin Assistant, and Virtual Assistant. With the most recent role I played which is FPA, I have learned a lot of attributes. I found my strengths and weaknesses. I believe fate has driven me to be an FPA because it has always been my dream to be an Accountant, which is kind of a sister field to Financial Planning☺.

The role allowed me to have a deeper look into my financial plans and management. It taught me to manage my debts and have a short and long term plan on my finances. I have been working with two Australian clients already as financial planning assistants. Among my responsibilities were to add new clients in Xplan and Worksorted. Update their information whenever needed. I assist my financial adviser in preparing documents before the meeting which includes generating annual review meeting packs such as Fact Find, Client Profile, Risk Profile, FSC ID Forms, generating portfolio reports via product and services portal, generating FTA, SOA, Invoices and others. I also send emails to clients and product and service providers. Part of my responsibilities as well is to call product and service providers to follow up requests or ask queries about clients’ accounts and/or to ask technical questions about their online portal.

I was once a VA as well. I assisted my client with his day to day activities and meetings. I helped him with anything he needed – mostly with documents and updating our CRM.

It was not my plan to venture into working from home not until the pandemic, when our company initiated the work from home setup. I found myself loving it. I felt more productive knowing I am able to work while also spending time with my family. That gave me the inspiration to look for a company with permanent work from home setup. It’s kind of a risk, but it is a risk I am willing to take. I am flexible and can easily adapt to new environments and I am always eager to learn. For me, learning is an everyday thing and failure or mistakes are not hindrances to move forward and be a better version of yourself.

The great thing about a VA or FPA is that you can develop the skills needed in different tasks you’re assigned to and necessary knowledge grows as long as you have the willingness and eagerness deep within yourself. It also adds up if you love what you are doing, you’re open to constructive criticism and you constantly communicate by asking questions whenever necessary. There is nothing more satisfying than getting the work done efficiently and on time. Lastly, for me it’s always, always heartwarming to be of help.
