Thea Krisette Policarpio – Administrative Assistant

thea-policarpio-vaHello everyone! Thea here at your service.

I am a degree holder with a Bachelor’s in Business and Public Administration. It took me a while to get my degree and had to take advantage of the Off-Campus Program offered by my alma mater. I wasn’t born in a well-off family, so when my father stopped working when I 19yrs old, I had to look for a job to help support our family. I didn’t know at that time what I wanted to do in the future but what’s important is that I can put food on the table.

During the time, when I was job hunting, the only high paying job I could possibly get as an undergraduate was in the BPO industry. As long as you have good communication skills, and are confident that you can deliver yourself well, then you’re good to go. Communication skills play a vital role in the BPO industry in the Philippines. I was very fortunate to have attended one of the best Catholic schools in the Philippines that provided a strong foundation academically and spiritually. We were taught important things that helped me when I grew a bit older, especially when I was chosen to represent my secondary school in oratorical contests and declamation contests. These contests gave me honor and name in other schools.

It wasn’t easy working in the BPO industry especially if you’re not a tech savvy person. Fortunately, all you need will be provided during your training. I have also learned that “patience is not a virtue” but a skill that is a hidden requirement in this industry. You will be handling different kinds of customers that have different status in life. It doesn’t matter if your portfolio handles their concern, but what’s important is that you deliver excellent customer service that would most of the times require you to go the extra mile just to keep them. You may hear them raising their voices at you or may even swear at you, but you don’t have to take it personally since this is their way of expressing their frustrations. Despite all these, you still have to show empathy and help them resolve their concerns.

thea-policarpio-vaYears passed and I was able to work in different companies. I found out that flexibility is another key to survive in this very challenging world! Other companies contributed to developing my skill set. I have learned how important it is to be a good team-player and be able to multitask effectively and efficiently. I can work under minimal supervision. I am results-oriented with high-energy and professionalism. The things I have learned with my previous companies gave me a successful track record of accomplishments in customer service, collections, technical support, accounts receivable, and as an assistant administrator. Being trustworthy, ethical and committed to excellent productivity using all my resources to complete certain tasks are also significant contributions that you must possess.

My latest job was an Assistant Administrator to the Assistant Vice President for Administration in a university and my tasks are to schedule appointments and maintain calendars, schedule and coordinate staff meetings, distribute mail and collate them, prepare communications such as memos, emails, reports and other correspondence, answer phones and greet visitors as well. A part also of my previous job was to create emergency procedures and business continuity plans in the university.

The support I have given is vital for the daily operations in the university. It is very important that I impart the skills I have learned from my previous companies. The challenges may be difficult but I know that persistence makes all the difference, persisting in the face of adversity is what builds champions.
Excitedly and humbly looking forward to helping your company get your victories!
