Clint Sia – Graphic Designer

Clint-Sia-vaLet me start by saying hello! I am Clint Pearson Sia, born in Cebu City, Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts major in English. By profession, I am a Creative Designer. But enough about that, let me tell you about my story.

Growing up was a bit complicated for me, my parent’s split up when I was still 2 years old, while my mother was still pregnant with my younger sister. My grandmother on my father’s side took me in. As early as 7 years old, I already learned how to work. My grandmother runs a wholesale and retail store, so I was trained at an early age to man a cash counter and the store. Apart from that she usually sends me to other places like the farms she owns in order for me to learn things.

I think at age 15 I’ve already roamed the entire Philippines. I’m the kid who has no permanent address. I’m not complaining though because I love traveling and learning. They help me to be independent and stand on my own. Only I keep on transferring schools and losing some friends. I guess that’s one of the reasons why I am extremely introverted. I just go where she needs me to go. I seldom see my father and sister because I was always away. After graduating from college, I decided to travel on my own and find my own career path. This is the first time that I met my mother at 21 years old.

Clint-Sia-vaMy career path took me into different kinds of jobs. I started working for a telecommunication company for a data entry and customer service position. After that, I was looking for growth and I took an administrative management position. It is where I was drawn back to creative design. I was always passionate about art and designs, as a kid, I always copied and drew cartoon characters and superheroes from collectible cards and sold my drawings to my classmates. With the new skills I acquired, I was able to grow more, from doing administrative tasks to taking marketing positions. Although I did not have a degree in graphic design, my experiences successfully led me to be exposed to work internationally.
During my time there, I have been able to build my portfolio through designing packages and 3D dimensional design. My experience there has built up my proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite like Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Lightroom, XD, and even 3D Dimensional software.

If it were not for the pandemic, I would have still been working abroad. In late May of 2020, I contracted the COVID-19 virus in Riyadh. It was severe and it was hard to be away from my family being sick and alone. It was a tough ordeal and a struggle but I came out victorious from the battle. More than 2 months before my full recovery, I made the decision to come back home to the Philippines.

Back home I started working remotely as a Senior Graphic Designer from clients abroad. All-in-all, I am happy with the way my career has progressed so far, given the normal ups and downs of life. I feel that I have done quite well and have no complaints.

After all, it’s not really about the destination but it’s all about the journey that matters the most as quoted by Mr. Kobe Bean Bryant.
