Maricel Castro – Document Controller, Administrative Assistant

maricel-castro-vaHello, I am Maricel Castro. Most people call me Acel. I graduated from Bulacan State University and took up a Bachelor of Industrial Technology major in Computer. I also took up some units for teaching. I was able to pass the board exam last May 2017. I experienced working in the factory – it was too near to my home and it only took me 10 minutes to get to the office. I still get to enjoy the sunset after working. And I learned a lot from that organization although it does not give me the opportunity to study again so I have to leave that company.

The next company I worked for was a government agency which allowed me to have the opportunity to study after work and on weekends. Although I have experience commuting 2 hours daily,, we have a carpool service so it was fine. I had the offer to work in Ortigas and I thought this would be my opportunity to work in the city so I grabbed it without batting an eyelash. And this is how my calvary in commuting started. Actually, during my first 2 years commuting it was bearable. In my third year working in Ortigas, commuting had become a total sacrifice. It became harder and harder each day. I consume 4 hours of my life commuting going back and forth to the office and home. I also have a tedious experience commuting every day. This is the reason why I want to experience working from home.

maricel-castro-vaIt was said then when life throws you a lemon, make a lemonade. When the pandemic hit, almost everyone was in a panic. I was able to travel abroad but after the travel we have quarantine, so even before the lockdown in the Philippines I am already ready to work from home. After experiencing working from home, I don’t want to go back to the office again. I save so much time commuting. I was able to do other productive things. And the team I am working with was happy with my performance even I am working from home because I can do and send submissions even beyond office hours to hit our client’s deadline. If I was not working from home I wouldn’t be able to do it. I am applying for the Document Control post because I want to permanently work from home set-up as I learned the value of my time.

I am looking forward to advancing my career online. I learned that I can still work and thrive even when I am away from the office. It is because I don’t need too much supervision and I am in constant communication both with clients and my superior.
