Philip Alayon – Customer Service Representative

philip-alayon-vaGood day! My name is Philip. I am from Bacolod City, Philippines. I have a degree in Bachelor of Science Major in Computer Science. My first job was during my on-the-job training program by our school and I was working as clerical encoder in the records section of one of the public hospital here in our province. From that experience, I learned a lot and discovered at an early age that we have to work hard in order for us to provide good medical assistance to our family if ever they get sick. When I graduated, I was not able to pursue my career as a Computer Programmer. I tried applying whatever job was available. Unfortunately, I had an accident which hindered me to work for about 2 years since I required physical therapy. When I got the opportunity to apply to a BPO Industry, I took the chance and started my career as a Customer Service Representative.

I worked as a chat specialist working for one of the top cable provider in United States. After 3 years, I was transferred to a different department in which my customer service skills was put to the test. I became a technical support specialist and catered to customers with issues with their home phones and internet service. I was able to develop how to control my emotions and extend my patience especially to customers with little knowledge about phone and internet.

philip-alayon-vaAfter few months I was selected to be a subject matter expert where I focused more in helping my peers and trainees in our department. With that I develop my inter personal skills with my workmates. I got to coach my teammates, share my knowledge and the things that I learned.

After 5 years of working as a chat specialist, a new opportunity came. This time, I switched to receiving calls and assisting customers with technical issues on their cable TV’s and at the same time we have to work on making Sales. I learned how to incorporate helping customers in troubleshooting and then transition in selling products. At first it was very challenging since I came from chat, but with the help of my managers and team leaders, I was able to get the hang of it. I worked in the BPO Industry for almost 11 years, and then I decided to retire in December of 2019. I decided to go back home and got married.

I got a new job as an Insurance Agent for a bank and there I was able to apply my skills in sales and my inter personal skills I got from my experience, however it did not end up well for me. Since the pandemic, there were lesser people who are interested in investing on insurance. I was also affected by the last in, first out rule of the company. Right now I am very much motivated to work and spend more time with my wife since we just got married. The opportunity to become a VA would be perfect for me as I can spend more time at home while learning at the same time.

My edge here is my experience and my motivation to become successful. I am a true believer of hard work. I am easy to be trained, and I can work with less supervision.

Thank you for your time in reading my story.
