Mico Martija – General Virtual Assistant, Software Developer
Hi, my name is Mico Martija. You can just call me by my first name. I am the eldest in the brood of two. I am a college graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Eastern Visayas State University – Tanauan Campus. Gamer for as long as I can remember, I’ve been a huge fan of Resident Evil (old favorites and current remakes), but I’ve never been able to finish one without pausing the game to catch my breath after encountering jump scares.
My software developer career started in Tacloban City during the pandemic, right after college graduation. I felt disheartened while adjusting to the cautious workplace environment and also worrying about health simultaneously. Despite the challenges, I persisted. Made many friends, learned corporate culture dynamics, and experienced highs alongside lows at my previous job. Unsurprisingly, some connections deepened into meaningful bonds.
I was in mobile and web app development (react-native and react) for a year before I got reassigned to Zoho platforms (deluge; a programming language used by Zoho) handling CRM, Creator, and Forms. Working closely with my Team Lead, Quality Assurance Specialists, and Project Managers is crucial in making sure that the software I create has high quality standards. It must also meet the project timeline. As a software developer, these are my top priorities. And I have gained understanding about virtual assistants by taking notes with the resemblances in what they do. Roles they play show likeness.
But it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. My career’s initial year left me terrified of lagging behind. I felt out of place, a laughing stock. Determined, I grind endlessly, studying day and night, though it did more damage than help, it harmed my mental health. However, I stumbled upon a quote that said, “If you weren’t capable, the opportunity would have never come your way. You belong.” The situation instilled a sense of hope within me, and of course with the support of my family and friends. Eventually, I overcame that challenging phase, yet a lingering remnant of fear persisted. However, I recognise that fear holds no sway if I acknowledge the diligence I invested to reach my current standing.
I am motivated to look ahead with excitement. Growing my skills and knowledge fuels me. I stay resilient and adapt well to setbacks, must-haves to improve work life and personal life. Overcoming obstacles energises me in each area.
My goal is to keep advancing in my job path. I’ll do this by showing I can bounce back from setbacks as I gain more talents and information. Doing so will make my work life better, and also help me grow as a person. I’m excited to pick up fresh knowledge, and tackle brand new quests.
